Neymar's Al Hilal Transfer News

BREAKING: Neymar is undergoing medical ahead of completing a transfer to Al-Hilal (as per @davidornstein)

In a shocking and unexpected move, Brazilian superstar Neymar is reportedly close to joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reliable journalist David Ornstein, Neymar is currently undergoing a medical examination in Riyadh ahead of completing a record-breaking transfer to the Saudi Professional League champions.

Neymar, who transferred to PSG from Barcelona in 2017 for a record-breaking sum of €222 million, has been the subject of return speculations to Spain for numerous years. Nonetheless, both Barcelona and Real Madrid found it difficult to cover his salary and transfer cost, particularly due to the financial constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite having initially extended his contract with PSG until 2025, Neymar appears to have altered his plans and is now pursuing a fresh opportunity in Asia.

Al-Hilal, who are owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, have been looking to make a marquee signing to boost their profile and prestige in the continent and beyond.

They have reportedly agreed to pay PSG €250 million for Neymar, making him the most expensive player in history for the second time. Neymar will also become the highest-paid player in the world, earning a staggering €2 million per week.

Al-Hilal are the most successful club in Saudi Arabia and Asia, having won 66 official trophies, including eight Asian Football Confederation titles. They are currently coached by Portuguese tactician Jorge Jesus, who has previously worked with Neymar at Flamengo.

Al-Hilal have also signed other high-profile players this summer, such as Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, Rúben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Sergej Milinković-Savić from Lazio.

Neymar's arrival will undoubtedly make Al-Hilal the favorites to win the AFC Champions League for the fifth time in their history. However, some fans and pundits have questioned Neymar's motivation and ambition for leaving one of the top leagues in Europe for a less competitive and prestigious one in Asia.

Neymar has also faced criticism for his injury record, his attitude on and off the pitch, and his involvement in legal disputes with his former clubs.

Neymar has scored 82 goals and provided 50 assists in 112 appearances for PSG, helping them win three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France titles, two Coupe de la Ligue titles, and three Trophée des Champions titles.

He also reached the UEFA Champions League final with PSG in 2020, losing to Bayern Munich. Neymar is also the joint-top scorer for Brazil alongside Pelé, with 77 goals in 124 caps. He has won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013, the Copa América runner-up medal in 2021, and the Olympic gold medal in 2016 with Brazil.
